Birch and the Tiger is the Brooklyn-based brainchild of Los Angeles ex-patriot, Zenobia Dolli Ortis, who shines as a vocalist and cross-cultural songwriter, and surrounds herself with a revolving roster of talented multi-instrumentalists. Through music, she tells folkloric tales of modern madness soulfully sang to funky afrobeat inspired rhythms with some fierce instrumentalists casting sonic spells.
“A wild and beautiful tiger was banished from her jungle by a multitude of weaker kin. She ran to the waters to weep in peace for her heart was broken. Tired and lonely she walked slowly through the thicket by the shore until a birch tree fell before her. “How odd”, she thought, “to find such a tree falling in this place.” “Rest my friend,” the tree said to her. “I too am alone among my own kind. Lay your head upon me, you will find solace here.” Tired, she rested her head upon the tree and fell asleep. She awoke to find that the waters had risen around her and only the tree itself keeping her head afloat. Uprooted the tree seemed to grow wider and stronger. She climbed atop it. They set sail. Together they traveled many lands and saw many things. These are some of their stories. “
