We’re heading to SXSW for the the first time this year… find out where to see our artists now!
While most RADIOHEAD fans were still absorbing the band’s new album, Los Angeles’ indie-pop darlings ROBOTANISTS reinterpreted, recorded and released their own version of The King of Limbs in its entirety, just 24 hours after its release. A mere five days earlier ROBOTANISTS released their own third full length album, Plans In Progress, produced by Danny Kalb (Ben Harper, Beck, Karen O, Feist). The quartet, often compared to Florence + The Machine, Jenny Lewis, The Xx, are already garnishing praise for their February releases, having been featured in The New York Times Magazine, Paste Magazine and Prefix, as well as hundreds of blogs and digital publications in the US and abroad. Their breakthrough single “Wait a Minute Here” topped charts in Los Angeles (KCRW, KROQ) and other major cities across the US, and their latest single “On/Off the Ledge” will premiere at radio just in time for the group’s first trip to SXSW.
HERE’S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT ROBOTANISTS…
“Female-fronted indie at its finest, a soulful voice cast over booming guitar and downright pretty production quality… as sincere as it is dancy, adjectives that normally take effort to pair together.”
“[Ellquist’s] achingly candied vocals give such dream-pop chansons a romantically yearning quality, as her musical co-conspirator Daniel DeBlanke surrounds her with shimmering layers of guitar and electronics”
>> LA Weekly
“@Robotanists rerecorded the new Radiohead record better than Radiohead!”
“Robotanists’ versatile music effortlessly blends elements of rock and pop, reflecting a spectrum of moods rather than a particular genre. Their songs evoke different atmospheres that are intriguing and captivating, with a seemingly metaphorical depth.”
Austin, Texas’ acclaimed “matrimony rock” duo, THE LONG TANGLES formed only a year ago, but what a year its been! Often compared to Mates of State and The Xx, the indie-pop group released their debut full length album, Silver City in January on Overhead Records!
HERE’S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THE LONG TANGLES…
“A drum/synth/vox Indie Pop/Indie Rock/Matrimony Rock duo. Blessed or cursed (depending on perspective) with the look and similar line-up of “Mates of State,” The Long Tangles produce a sound uniquely their own. Multi-toned synth and keyboard bass tones interwine with fiery and vigorous drumming to lay a strong foundation for alluring lyrics and layered melodies.”
>> The Austin Chronicle
“The Long Tangles have a lot going for them. They’ve got catchy material, they sound good live, and they have a wave of hype after a very successful first year as a band. The fact that they have pumped out an EP, Blueprints & Maps, pulled off a brief summer tour, and managed to record and release their debut LP all within the span of a single year is amazing. Having formed in January 2010 from other disbanded groups, that’s a lot of progress for a short amount of time, all of culminating the release of the delightfully poppy, Silver City.”
